Why It’s Tricky to Get a Builder’s Quote Right Now

If you’ve been trying to get hold of a builder lately, you might be wondering if we’ve all gone into hiding. Calls aren’t getting returned, quotes are taking ages, and everyone seems just a bit too busy. Trust me — we’re not ignoring you. This time of year just gets a little… hectic.

Here’s why:

1. We’re Flat Out on Site

The weather’s good, so we’re pushing hard to get projects moving. Less rain means more building days — but it also means we’re on the tools from sun-up to sundown. And when you’ve been lugging timber all day, sitting down to do a detailed quote at 9 pm is tough.

2. The “Before Christmas” Rush Is Real

Every year, around now, everyone suddenly remembers they want their reno, deck, or kitchen done before Christmas. It’s a mad dash to finish current jobs before the holidays, which means quoting new projects often has to wait until the dust settles.

3. Trades and Suppliers Are Booked Solid

We don’t work alone — every job involves other trades and suppliers. Right now, they’re as busy as we are. That makes it harder to lock in accurate timeframes and prices for a big project, which slows the quoting process down.

4. Big Dreams Take Big Time to Price

A proper quote for a big extension or a custom build isn’t something we can scribble on a napkin. It takes hours to go through plans, check regulations, get pricing from other trades, and make sure we’re giving you solid numbers. It’s worth doing right — but it’s not quick.

5. We’d Rather Be Honest Than Overpromise

Good builders know their limits. If our schedule’s packed, we’d rather be upfront than promise a start date we can’t stick to. Sometimes that means waiting a bit before we commit to your project.

The key takeaway: If you’ve got a dream project in mind, the earlier you start talking to a builder — ideally before the rush — the better. Right now, patience and flexibility will go a long way. We want to help bring your ideas to life… we just have to finish building everyone else’s first!
